What Is Between 1/8 And 1/4 – Have you ever looked at a tape measure and wondered what all the different lines and markings are for? Here are some tips on how to properly read the tape and find the exact measurements. You’ve heard the saying “measure twice, cut once.”
When starting a remodeling project, you need to know how to use a tape measure to get the most accurate numbers.
What Is Between 1/8 And 1/4
The cassette is not difficult to read, but there are many signs and symbols that you may not be aware of. Even if you’re not that good at math, you’ll find that you don’t have to do too many calculations to get accurate measurements.

So I thought it would be helpful to show you how to read the tape and what all those handy symbols mean.
It is much longer than your standard ruler and much easier to use when measuring a larger area or piece of wood.
As a general rule, what we think of as “tape” is a rolling, self-adhesive style tape. The “tape” portion of the roll is usually metal and stiff enough to hold straight, but flexible enough to roll into its container for easy storage.
There are many different tape measure lengths, but the most common would be 12 feet and 25 feet. I would highly recommend having each of these.
Choosing A Ratchet
12 feet is a great size for projects or hanging artwork, and 25 feet will be long enough to scale most rooms or larger projects.
Most of the tape has a yellow curved ruler with printed measurements. Sometimes the tape will be white and some of these may only mean inches and feet. Most of them will look like the photo below.
The lines are of different sizes. the shorter the line, the smaller the measurement. For example, inch marks are the longest lines and sixteenths of an inch are the shortest.
Inches are generally the easiest measurement to read on a tape measure. The number is usually large and bold every inch, and the line extends across the belt.

After each inch, you simply halve each unit of measurement and the lines reflect this in their dimensions.
1/2″. There are 2 half inches in an inch. The half inch mark is the next longest line between the inch marks. It literally cuts every centimeter in half.
1/4″. There are 4 quarter inches in an inch. Quarter inch markings are only slightly smaller than half inch markings. Two-quarters of an inch equals half an inch. You will have 1/4″ or 3/4″.
1/8 inch. There are eight eighths of an inch in an inch. Eighth inch marks are the second smallest marks. Two eighths of an inch equals one quarter. You will have 1/8″, 3/8″, 5/8″, 7/8″.

1/16 inch. There are 16 sixteenths of an inch in an inch. This is the shortest line you will find on the tape. Two sixteenth notes equal one eighth. You will have 1/16″, 3/16″, 5/16″, 7/16″, 9/16″, 11/16″, 13/16″, 15/16″.
Foot. for every 12 inches you’ll see (often, but not always) a black arrow telling you that you’ve hit the one foot mark, two foot mark, three foot mark, and so on. reduce the length of the tape. These handy markers make it easy to add all those custom inches.
The number there indicates a distance of 16 inches on center. This is a common frame spacing for wall studs. This makes it (usually) easier to find the nail if you already know where it is. You can simply count from one to the other.
In a house frame, 16 inches is a very common stud spacing. This spacing allows you to fit 8-foot sheets of plywood without cutting them. So that’s the basis of the red numbers, but we like to find a quick nail.

Wood is known to move a bit as the house settles, so you’ll need to use a nail finder to find the exact location, but the red number will get you pretty close.
The first black diamond you will find is 19 3/16 inches and these diamonds are designed to be spaced between the I-beams. I will say that black diamond is important, but also above my build level. We will leave the I-beams to the contractor.
There are quite a few parts of the movie that need to be identified and you probably already know about them, but let’s highlight them anyway.
The tape is curved so it can stay straight even when stretched long distances and twists around itself to hold it. Make sure your tape measure doesn’t twist when stretched to get the most accurate measurement.

The button stop prevents the tape from rolling backwards when counting, just push the button down and it holds. Release the button and it retracts.
Be careful when releasing the button as the strap can snap back quite quickly and is sharp enough to cut you.
Or he might go fast and drink your drink out of the bucket he’s sitting on and make a huge mess.
The back of the band includes a convenient belt. I don’t usually hang from a ribbon, but it still comes in handy.

And the outside of the meter is called “level”. I’ve also heard it called case, but I think the real technical term is housing, so I’m sticking with that.
Also note that there is a hook on the tip. The hinged end helps keep the tape on whatever you’re measuring. It also prevents the strap from rolling all the way to the end of the holster and disappearing on you.
When you first look at the hooked end of your tape, you’ll notice that it has a slight wobble to it. It’s rampant with intent.
When you hook your tip over the outside of an object to measure it, the tape stretches. This gives you an accurate measurement, offsetting 1/16″ of the hooked edge.
Dividing A Circle Into Areas
When measuring the inside of an item, the hooked end is pressed against the tape, subtracting 1/16 inch to give an accurate measurement.
So now that you know what all the different symbols on your tape measure mean, do you know how to actually use the tape?
Simply pull the tape from the edge and extend it to the edge of the object to be measured. That’s all there is to it.
If you are measuring the room, interior, or a shelf or closet, this is an easier way to get accurate measurements.
Gpa Is Equivalent To 73% Or A C Letter Grade
You have the metal hook clamped on one side and the strap housing clamped on the other side.
If you look on the back of your tape at the bottom you will see engraved letters that say something like “+3 inches”. This is the long case of your ribbon.
So all you have to do is look at your measurement and add 3 inches (or whatever your tape measure reads).
I prefer the Stanley Power Lock tape measure because I find them easy to use as well as comfortable. Some of the thicker type tools are much harder to use. Granted, my hands will be smaller than most men’s, so those wider hands might feel uncomfortable.

I would recommend that you go to a hardware store and actually try on tape measures to see which one you like. You’ll probably only need to buy a few of these in your lifetime, so it pays to choose ones that will last and are easy to read.
A very light strap probably won’t last as long as a heavier strap of the same length, just FYI.
The tape is a yellow curved ruler with all numerical measurements printed on it. A wider belt will generally be stronger and hold better than a shorter, narrower belt. This is because the wide strap can be stretched without bending or bending in itself.
You may notice that the belt is curved. This is so that they can maintain their structure when stretched. This is especially useful when measuring yourself.
Question 5 (i)
Make sure your tape measure is flat on the surface you are measuring to get the most accurate numbers. If it falls in the middle, you’re not getting the best measurement.
Be careful when releasing the tape lock, the edges of the tape may give paper like a cut and it will be damaged. I mean, it’s never happened to me, but it could. (Also a good reason to wear gloves when doing projects)
When marking your measurement, it may be helpful to use the letter “v” instead of “l” to make it easier to see where it is marked.
Now you know how to read tape like a pro. This is a particularly great skill
