Is this a conscious decision or do poodles like Whippets and vice versa? I think puppets are similar in personality, shy and quiet companion dogs (unless you have rowdy, rowdy Ralphie). Are they good playmates for Poodles? Is it like a poodle without grooming it? Not sure why I want this… just curious I guess.
I had to laugh when I say this thread because lately I have been thinking about visions! I used to joke with my mom when she cut out her little blue puke, it looked like a hound.

Well, I have to say that the kids and I were looking for a cone before settling on holes. Do you know that there are NO reported hereditary diseases in dogs? They also don’t shed much and have very little dog smell. They are supposed to be a great family pet, a small dog in a big dog’s body because they are so easy to live with. What led me to seek out poodles was intelligence, in the end. But still I love con.

I think it has to do with the elegance of the breed. His grace could attract the same type of person, someone who starts with one person and then wants or doesn’t want the other person’s fake hair. :laugh:

I think it’s the look of both dogs, that they attract the same type of people. My sister has a whistle, she’s so beautiful, if she wasn’t a shedder I’d get her instead of Carley. They are very calm and like cats in the house. etc.
My neighbor has got 3 dogs and none of them are healthy. I was surprised to read that most. They were all rescues and they don’t get the best food and that’s the problem. She was crazy about the first two, but this third one is not like the others and she was very sad about it.
I had a dog before I got Ruso. He had a terrible accident that left me, and Ruso came as a comforting gift from a friend.
I love both breeds, in fact I love dogs in general, but they are quite different in my opinion. Puppets were bred to run and chase, and the instinct is very strong in most of them. I believe poodles, well at least toy poodles, were bred to be human companions. I see differences: my dog, at home, was very naughty. TRUE. He was interested in everything, and Ruso is mainly interested in me. My dog’s energy level was very high. I know some poodles have strength too (read the thread here about a miniature that reminded me of my beloved dog). In my opinion, a hound needs a lot of space, a lot of exercise and a lot of running, and all of that is not always easy to provide. In addition, they cannot go without meat (except in fenced or controlled areas) and are very accident prone.

Hmmm, I’ve only met one Whippet. She was beautiful. The owners declared that she had “very high energy”. I would run around the dog park with my Ralph, they were a great couple, they had the same pace and took turns chasing each other. After about 10 minutes of running at full speed, the hound fell at the feet of the owners to take a nap. Ralph went out to play with the next dog, running and chasing the next “high energy” dog, LOL.
I find Whippets/Galgos look very elegant and delicate, like my Poodle. We joke that Ralph is a little hound (in appearance and speed).

Perhaps it has something to do with the two breeds getting along well together, as they both love to run. Whenever I go for a lurcher (small or medium), Ollie loves to play. That’s not the case with the big ones because they get too easy!
It is very possible that it is the elegance factor. I admit that I am drawn to the look of hounds such as Afghans and Salukis. Leroy is tall and thin, I always say how cute, tiny he is! Unlike other breeds that look like sausages (bull breeds). I think Poodles and Havanese make a great couple.

Toys are plentiful and they will be going out in the cold. My 3 pound teacup loves the cold and the snow.

When he died I looked at many different breeds (Dobermans were high on the list) and the Whippet and Standard Poodle were the two I narrowed down the list. I weighed the pros and cons and asked family members what they preferred and that’s why I decided on a spoon.

He is just a beautiful dog. I got to keep it on my latest poodle company and because I knew they were easy dogs to be as long as you gave them space to run. In the house there are quiet couch potatoes. They can be feline (mine shows really clean). I want to get another poodle, but I thought I would mix it up. I also wanted a dog that didn’t need grooming. He loses but not much and the hair is very short and not noticeable if you are not dressed in black and sitting on the sofa.
