How Tall Is 700 Meters – As of January 1, 2023, the European Union has a new tallest building: the Varso Tower in Warsaw. Elsewhere, things look bigger: In the list of the tallest buildings in the world, the one who registers more than 828 meters in Saudi Arabia plans even a 2 kilometer tower.
The highest records of buildings are from cathedrals and early churches. Currently, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is the tallest building in the world. In Jeddah City, a tower of more than 1,000 meters is planned. Dubai has gone ahead and announced the 1,400 meter tall Creek Tower. In Saudi Arabia there are even plans for a 2 kilometer tower. The new capital of Egypt plans to build a 1,000-meter tower, and Tokyo is a dream for residential buildings 1,700 meters.
How Tall Is 700 Meters
Compared to the rest of the world, European buildings are relatively poor. The tallest building in Europe is the 462 meter Lakhta Tower in St. According to the definition set in 2009, buildings must be more than 300 meters to be considered “tall”. With “megatall” there is now a new category for buildings over 600 meters.

Until 1930, the Eiffel Tower was the only structure in the world that measured more than 300 meters, the 319-meter-high Chrysler Building in New York and the 381-meter-high Empire State Building heralded the building’s age of grandeur.
The list follows CTBUH guidelines and only covers buildings with a minimum of 350 square meters. They must be filled out to be on the list. The CTBUH classifies them by their height, which includes spires as part of the architecture. However, the radio antennas do not count towards the height of the building.
With the Burj Khalifa, Asia is the region with the tallest buildings in the world. China and Malaysia also have many other skyscrapers, which is why this region is often represented on the list. North America is closest to the World Trade Center in New York City. The skyscrapers of New York also hold many famous buildings in the list of 20 and 30 tallest buildings in the world.
In third place on the list of tallest skyscrapers by region in the world is Europe, although here the number is already below 500 meters. The rating is provided by the Lakhta Center in Russia. In Oceania, the Q1 tower in the Australian city of Gold Coast is four positions 323 meters high.

In fifth place in the world from the tallest skyscraper is South America. The tallest building here is the 300 meter Gran Torre Santiago in Santiago de Chile. And in Africa, Leonardo – in Sandton, South Africa – holds the record with a height of 228 meters.
Since 2010, the era of mega-tall buildings from 600 meters and up has won. The Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which is still the tallest building in the world, was commissioned. Mecca’s Clock Tower followed at 601 meters in 2012, and Shanghai built the city’s tallest building to date in 2015 at 632 meters. Kuala Lumpur’s second PNB 118 tower isn’t due for completion until 2022, but despite being 679 meters tall, it still doesn’t come close to the Burj Khalifa.
So now only four buildings in the entire world are classified as mega-tall buildings. Especially in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, the race continues. But from today’s perspective, the Burj Khalifa may not lose its top spot in the next 10 years. Megaprojects are often a political problem. For example, the Jeddah Tower construction site has been idle for years because an anti-corruption campaign in Saudi Arabia led to financial difficulties. The corona virus and the lack of construction materials are also slowing progress. But when Dubai learned of the construction freeze in Jeddah, the proposed Dubai Creek Tower is on hold.
However, Saudi Arabia’s PIF announced plans to build a 2-kilometer tower north of Riyadh as part of the country’s Vision 2030 plan. With The Line, Saudi Arabia plans to build a line that will be 170 kilometers long. The goal of major projects is to reduce dependence on oil and gas by 2030.

A total of 50 stairwells around the world, designed to be over 150 meters high each, have been started but not completed due to financial problems and political challenges.
The report described “incomplete” as when site construction began but stopped completely, and “there are no reports that construction will continue.”
The tallest building yet to be completed is the Nakheel Tower in Dubai, which is supposed to be a kilometer tall – that’s more than THREE TIMES the height of the Shard! What would have been the tallest building in the world began in 2008, but construction ended a year later.
In fact, four out of 10 towers are unfinished in Dubai – highlighting the financial crisis facing the construction sector there.

The second-tallest building is the Indian Tower in Mumbai, which is supposed to be 700 meters high – but it was completed in 2011 after a year, just starting the foundation.
The third is the Russian Tower in Moscow – which is expected to be more than 600 meters high, but was first started in 2008.
The report also highlights the buildings that have taken a long time to complete, with the Ryugyong Hotel in North Korea taking more than 28 years so far – and it’s still not finished.
Two other towers have been in operation for more than 20 years – Plaza Rakyat in Kuala Lumpur and Xiamen International Center in Xiamen, China.
