How Long Is 2000 Miles – A new online map resource lets you calculate a driving radius, but you don’t need a pencil, ruler and paper map.AP
Remember the old song “500 Miles Away From Home”? Think of it as a challenge instead of a complaint and you might come up with some great ideas for a road trip.
How Long Is 2000 Miles
You can do it the old-fashioned way, calculating distances on a paper map with a mile scale and a ruler. But now there are free online tool radius tools that show you at a glance which destinations are within a certain distance.
Miles Together: Ben Crawford
Go to the website and scroll down to the “Options” form. Enter the city you are starting from in “Place radius by place name.”
Skip Latitude and Longitude and go to the “Radius Distance” section. With this, the form automatically sets the radius distance to 1,000 miles, but you can reset it by entering the number of miles you’re willing to drive in the “miles” box next to the mileage box.
Scroll up to see the green circle on the map. Zoom in by grabbing the minus sign on the left and moving it up a few notches for a more detailed look at cities in your drive-to zone.
Depending on traffic and highway speeds, most people can easily cover 500 miles in a day’s driving, so starting with that distance can inspire interesting choices. If you are taking a week’s vacation, it is often an acceptable trade-off to drive to and from your destination on the first and last days to save on airfare.

Starting with New York as the radius point on the FreeMapTools.com website, you quickly see that trips to Montreal, Toronto, Cleveland and Virginia Beach, Va., are within a 500-mile radius.
Destinations on the edge of the circle may be further than your maximum distance if you calculate the actual driving routes. The radius tool measures distances as the crow flies without taking highways or terrain into account, so it’s a good idea to check distances against an odometer on MapQuest or GoogleMaps.
Safely within the 500-mile circle around New York, the actual distance to Toronto is 475 miles; to Cleveland, 463 miles; to Montreal, 376 miles; and to Virginia Beach, Va., 362 miles. Greenville, N.C., appears near the edge of the 500-mile circle, and GoogleMap’s odometer says the mileage is just over 500 miles, at 522.
Check out some other starting points for some great vacation ideas within a 500-mile radius: Baltimore to Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Denver to Mount Rushmore; Cleveland to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky; Minneapolis to Kansas City; Tucson to Los Angeles; Atlanta to Orlando; Boise, Idaho, to Portland, Ore.; Helena, Mont., to Salt Lake City.

If youare willing to drive seven to 10 hours, the cost savings are significant for a 500 kilometer drive compared to flying. For one person, that’s not much, but a family of four will probably spend more than $1,000 to fly anywhere. Air travel is also about more than the cost of plane tickets; there is transportation to and from the airport, food and other incidentals, and car rental when you land.
However, with gas around $2 a gallon, it will cost you well under $100 to drive 1,000 miles in a car that gets 25 mpg. Even counting tolls, food and a night in a motel along the way if you can’t make the trip in one day, it will certainly cost less than plane tickets. If you’re feeling ambitious, leave before breakfast and you can easily reach a destination 600 miles away by lunchtime.
Or if you’re willing to leave in the morning and arrive in the afternoon, you expand your radius to 800 miles and you expand your vacation options significantly. My husband and I managed to drive the 840 kilometer trip from New York to Mammoth Cave in one day with two children (and no electronic devices to entertain them), and had a cheap and memorable vacation visiting the national park and nearby attractions .
While using a map radius, you can expand your list of potential vacation spots, but the appeal is partly psychological. Many people are not good at estimating distances, and knowing exactly how far away something is can make it more attainable.

Quantifying distance is also something of a national pastime. Of course there are thousands of road signs with distances to other cities, but there are also many examples of whimsical or desirable milestones.
American soldiers on bases overseas sometimes put up handmade signs showing the mileage to their favorite places and hometowns thousands of miles away. A sign in downtown Anchorage notes the distance to Tokyo and Paris. Many small towns in Maine are named after major cities around the world, so there are famous signs at local intersections showing place names like China, Norway, Mexico and Paris just a few miles down the road.
And when you reach the summit of Mount Katahdin in Maine at the northern end of the Appalachian Trail, you’re faced with a sign that says Springer Mountain, Ga., at the southern end of the trail, only 2,000 kilometers away. Despite the challenge, Memphis fans made their way to Portland to help support the Tigers in March Madness.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Marvin and Korri White walked home from the AAC tournament in Fort Worth with only one day to fly home and pack for their flight to Portland.

“We ended up in one of the happiest places on earth, without Memphis gear up. There it is,” said Marvin and Korri.
But when the Tigers returned to the big dance after eight long years, they all said they refused to miss the moment.
“The first year I inherit coach Tubby’s team. The second year James Wiseman can’t play and D.J. Jefferies gets hurt and Lester Quinones gets hurt. The third year there’s so much going on with COVID,” explained coach Penny Hardaway.
As tough as the first three years were on head coach Hardaway, some would say it was just as unbearable for Memphis fans.

“We hit a low point, some people fell off the train, but I think we’re not going to drop the ball and stop supporting until the final whistle blows,” Sanders said.
Sanders said he never underestimated Hardaway’s ability to get the program back to the NCAA Tournament and help Memphis live up to its reputation as a basketball town.
“The one thing that brings this city together, I don’t care what color you are what race it doesn’t matter. It’s the one thing where we all come together for a common bond and just for what we know and support it on your chest, says Sanders.
Whether it’s at home or 1,861 miles away in Portland, Memphis fans find a way to support the Tigers.

“We even heard the fans talking about trying to change their work orders to try to be here, so there are some super fans and even if we don’t get there, everyone will be in front of a TV if not in the arena cheering on our Memphis Tigers, said Korri White Home Quiz & Games History & Society Science & Technology Biographies Animals & Nature Geography & Travel Art & Culture Money Videos

Oregon Trail, also known as the Oregon-California Trail, in American history, a country route between Independence, Missouri and Oregon City, near present-day Portland, Oregon, in the Willamette River Valley. It was one of the two main emigrant routes to the American West in the 19th century, the other being the southern Santa Fe Trail from Independence to Santa Fe (now in New Mexico). In addition, branches of each tribe provided connections to destinations in California, and a trail of the Northern Oregon Route, part of the Oregon Trail, led to the Great Salt Lake area of what is now northern Utah.
The Oregon Trail spanned some 2,000 miles (3,200 km), and flourished as the primary means for hundreds of thousands of emigrants to reach the Northwest from the early 1840s to the 1860s. It crossed varied and often difficult terrain that included large areas occupied by Native Americans. From Independence, it first crosses the great prairie lands of today’s northeastern Kansas and southern Nebraska, to the Platte River. At the southern end of the Sand Hills it continued along the North Platte River (a major tributary of the Platte) into a much drier and increasingly rugged country in what is now
