To begin to understand how far you can kayak in a day, it helps to begin to understand the maximum speed of your boat.

Waves are often the natural result of wind. While waves can be a lot of fun if your goal is to play in them, they usually don’t do much to help your speed.
Of course, if your trip ends and you’re riding the back of a wave on the beach, your average speed can be higher (if you don’t take action). However, if you are in the middle of the trip, then the waves only work to increase your energy consumption and reduce your average speed.

Let’s say you are an experienced, healthy person. Your kayak is 16 feet long, the boat is empty (except for you) and the weather is perfect. So, you expect to be able to propel the kayak at 50% of its maximum rated speed. (The previous table shows that this combination equates to a speed of about 3.1 kilometers per hour.)
Now, consider the charts above. 5 hours of sailing at 3.1mph will allow you to travel 15 miles and 10 hours of swimming will take you 30 miles.

This is not meant to predict how long you will be able to paddle the kayak every day. However, it gives you a frame of reference when trying to plan your next trip.
Look again at the example above. The waterline of the kayak is 16 feet and you are an efficient, experienced kayaker who works in fair weather. At a speed of 3.1mph, you can kayak a mile in less than 20 minutes.
A more recreational kayak with a draft of 14 feet under the same conditions is about 2 mph. This person is able to kayak one mile in 30 minutes.
